I think he said at the time he didn't have the money. Obvous time and hail had basically ruined the car, but it didn't seem the car was that bad when laid up. In one of the episodes, he gets his old Fiero going that he dumped in a field decades earlier. For many, the chassis looks shot, lots of welding needed. Its whether he actually makes the cars solid or not. Its really sad because most of these cars were abandoned for minor issues like needing ignition tune ups or carb cleaning but that's progress. He may fix some paint or rust but the interior will be in all it's devastated glory and the vehicles are driveable. He does not rebuild, recondition or restore a car if that is what you are asking, no. I'm surprised he is never pulled by the cops.

I'm not sure if Derek is an incredibly brilliant mechanic, or a reckless lunatic, or both. Oh, and the car was abandoned, so he has no Title or log book. But he embarks on a 600 miles trip, with only the front brakes operating, the fuel tank held on by bailing wire, none of the clocks working, no wipers. For a change, he actually fits 4 new tyres to it. He gets it running, and in the end, the engine is running pretty well. In his latest episode, he' recovering a 69 Cadillac that seems to have sat in a field for over 30 years. Often, on the same tyres as found on said field car, leaking fuel, half the lights not working, barely any brakes.

I less like his race car episodes, where he jumps of the whole Cleetus MacFlarland skit, and ends up in some brain dead burn out competition.īut frequently his car recovery episodes end with some epic road trip to get the ar driven bak to his shop. I really enjoy this Youtube hannel, though mainly the episodes where he gets some car left in a field for decades running again after a few hours work (begging the question why were they dumped in the first place, at least for some of them).
